Ministry

Acts 6:4
'But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word.'  (RSV)

The FPCT accomplishes God’s work in the world in two ways:

One is by sharing in the worldwide ministries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and the other is by being directly involved with ministries that help people in the name of God.

The Deacons are spiritually led individuals, dedicated to providing
fellowship and hospitality to all, fostering group activities,
being sympathetic to the needs of others - while keeping the focus
on the love of the Holy Spirit in lives.

ÿ Mission Fund

What a blessing it is to announce that our church has been approved to participate in the Kroger Community Rewards program.  Each time an FPCT family shops at a Kroger, a percentage of those grocery receipt totals will be donated to our church's mission fund !  This will help us to meet the significant needs of our area and community.  Information on how to register is available at the church, or you may contact our church administrator.

ÿ Congregational Transformation Team

....so the churches were strengthened in the faith, and they grew in number daily. (RSV)

A group of enthusiastic FPCT volunteers meet every Wednesday morning to discuss areas of interest; such as worship, fellowship, study, ministry, and witness - thereby enabling disciples to reach, grow, and send.

ÿ Guest Missionaries
On Sunday, June 1st of 2008, Farris Goodrum visited with us from the seminary of the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil in Londrina, which is in southern Brazil.  He and his wife Thelma, are Presbyterian Church (USA) missionaries to Brazil.

Ferris led the Worship service, then shared in fellowship speaking on their ministry, and sharing his musical talents with us.  We all learned more of the culture of the area, adult literacy programs, and evangelism within Londrina and surrounding areas.

It was an uplifting experience to hear how much good is going on within the ministry in Brazil.

ÿ Crop Walk

An interfaith walk in May each year to raise funds to support both local and international efforts to alleviate hunger.  Volunteers from metro Detroit areas solicit pledges for the two mile walk, and all have a good time.  Walkers raise funds for eliminating hunger, and get healthy exercise at the same time.

Everyone is thankful for the beautiful day shared, and the chance to walk together in God's love and joy for this worthy mission!

ÿ Stuff a Van
Gently used clothing is collected throughout the year for those in need, and brought to Fort Street Presbyterian Church in Detroit for distribution.  This is an ongoing ministry, and is especially important during the colder months.

ÿ COTS  (Coalition on Temporary Shelter)
Hands-on mission and funding various times during the year, meeting with and serving meals to those in need.  Anyone may join in serving others to share the grace and love of God.

ÿ TPC  (Troy People Concerned)
Ongoing support for those families needing assistance throughout the year, including stuffing backpaks with school supplies in August, and 'Bring Him a Gift' during the Christmas season.

ÿ Mitten Tree
What a wonderful sight to see the Christmas tree decorated with hats and mittens to bring to the children who need winter protection. Each year these items are brought to various groups in the Detroit area.

ÿ American Red Cross Blood Drive
Twice a year, the First Presbyterian Church of Troy holds an ARC blood drive at the church in conjunction with local churches.  In April 2009 the City of Troy held a drive on the same day in order to allow more hours for donations.

Our October 2009 drive, co-sponsored with the Northminster Presbyterian and Central Woodward Christian Church resulted in 46 units of blood being donated!

It is with gratitude that we thank all those who were able to contribute to helping others with the 'gift of life.'

Our next blood drive will be on April 15th.  Details to follow.
